On June 28, 2007, the bald eagle was removed from the list of threatened species—one of the most notable wildlife rehabilitation efforts in U.S. history. Long considered a symbol of strength, the bird first appeared on the national seal in 1782.
Starting on June 26, 1945, American and British pilots ferried approximately 2.3 million tons of supplies into West Berlin on a total of 277,500 flights. It became the largest air relief operation in history.
