Dorothea Lange's iconic "Migrant Mother" photo symbolized the hardship of the Great Depression and the plight of migrant farm workers affected by the Dust Bowl.

While the photo raised awareness, Florence Owens Thompson, the woman in the photo and a mother of six, challenged the stereotypical image of Dust Bowl refugees that Lange depicted.
